Call for new bus stop at Rehab Care centre

A call was made recently for the council to correspond with Bus Éireann about providing a town service bus stop at the Athlone Rehab Care premises at Loughloe House, Coosan Road to benefit its service users and local residents.

Fianna Fáil Cllr Frankie Keena raised the motion and said that it would allow people to be more independent and make the town more accessible. Cllr John Dolan (FG) fully supported the motion and added that it may be possible to liaise with Bus Éireann to make the service more inclusive and user friendly.

Cllr Paul Hogan supported the motion saying: “It's a very good motion in that it's inclusive and promotes independence and I suppose it's really important for people with disabilities who may be in daycare housing in accessing services there and who may also want to access the town centre.

The Independent public representative also felt that improving the area around any bus stop at Athlone Rehab Care would help people with varying abilities and who may be wheelchair bound.
