VFI President calls for pubs to be ‘Be Age OK’ with Show Me ID training

Show Me ID has today launched its Be Age OK summer campaign, with the support of the Vintners Federation of Ireland (VFI), to promote responsible trading and prevent the sale of age-restricted products to minors.

VFI is the leading representative body for publicans in Ireland. To commemorate the launch, a special photocall was held at Giltraps pub in Kinnitty, Co Offaly, with new VFI President John Clendennen.

The Show Me ID - Be Age OK summer campaign centres around a comprehensive training module designed to equip retail and hospitality/pub staff with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively prevent underage sales of alcohol, tobacco, lottery tickets, and soon-to-be vaping products, with the enactment of the Public Health Bill. The summer edition is encouraging retail and hospitality staff to watch out for fake IDs during the busy holiday period.

The VFI President is calling upon publicans across Ireland to embrace the training module and prioritise responsible trading within the industry. The President is also calling on members to look out for the possible increased prevalence of fake IDs during the summer months. At the launch of the campaign, he said:

“I’m delighted as VFI President to officially launch the Show Me ID – Be Age Ok Summer campaign. The responsible serving of alcohol is hugely important to publicans, and we place great emphasis on ensuring minors do not have access to alcohol in our pubs. The campaign launch is also a timely reminder to publicans to watch out for fake IDs over the summer months.

“I would encourage all our members and their staff to undertake the training module available on the Show Me ID website. We can never become complacent about underage drinking and the free training will help all staff in their efforts to avoid selling age restricted products to minors.”

This year’s Show Me ID - Be Age OK summer campaign has commenced alongside an accompanying competition. This competition presents a brilliant chance for any retail or pub staff member to win one of five €100 One4All vouchers upon completing the training. To be eligible, participants must successfully complete the training module before 17:00 on the 24th of July.
