Derryglad Folk Museum to celebrate 25th anniversary with fundraising event this Sunday

A staple of culture and tourism in the midlands, Derryglad Folk & Heritage Museum is celebrating 25 years in business this weekend with a fundraising event in aid of Mayo-Roscommon Hospice.

This museum of rural history was founded in 1998 by Charlie Finneran, who operates it with his wife Bridie and sons Thomas and Jonathan.

Of the success the museum has enjoyed for the past 25 years, Charlie said: “We didn't think it would grow as it did. We started with 1400 items, now we have over 8000.”

These 8000 historical items, collected from all around the country, will be on display on Sunday. As well as this, there will be old style country butter making demonstrations (with butter on sale afterwards!), sean-nós dancing, storytelling, and plenty of music.

Charlie and everyone at Derryglad are encouraging people to come and enjoy themselves on a fun day out. “We're hoping for a good crowd on the day, and for a worthy cause.”

This special event will take place on Sunday, June 18, from 3-6pm.
