Kilbeggan Races hosts Summer Festival this Sunday

Kilbeggan Races hosts its Summer Sunday Festival on this coming weekend, June 4.

Manager Paddy Dunican sums up the occasion. “The Summer Sunday Festival provides excitement, colour, and thrilling racing in a brilliant atmosphere, and it’s about people enjoying themselves in a relaxed atmosphere. It’s a great opportunity for a group of friends to get together; for a family outing; meet new friends, enjoy the atmosphere of the occasion, music, glamour, craic,  sunshine, and some great competitive racing over the jumps on a Bank Holiday weekend.

Do not forget that the first race is at 2.10pm and you can enjoy the sunshine and atmosphere of a great day at Kilbeggan Races, which is in the heart of Ireland.

The May meeting was a great success with six sponsored races and two €30,000 races. Declan Queally’s Desert Heather won the handicap hurdle. His breeder Henry Gettings said he liked the course and the horse was “tough as nails”. Andrew Slattery’s horse Killeenmore Lad won a maiden hurdle at 66/1 beating the 200/1 runner up, which shows you can get big prices at Kilbeggan. The J.P McManus horse Get My Drift trained by Mouse Morris won the Beginner’s Chase and leading trainers Gordon Elliott and Willie Mullins both had winners. One to watch for is Willie Mullin’s You Oughta Know owned by Luke McMahon, who was the star in the bumper winning by 11 lengths at 3/1 beating Croke Park (not the stadium!). He said the horse was similar to Uncle Junior, who twice ran in Kilbeggan some years ago, before winning a cross country race at Cheltenham. He should be watched for the future.

The feature races on Sunday are a race sponsored by Entegro; the Adare Manor opportunity Hurdle  sponsored by J.P. McManus; and Greville Arms Hotel Mullingar Flat Race.

The normal admission ticket to our race meetings is €15. Kilbeggan is offering special discounts on admission tickets at €12 each for groups of 10 or more.

There is also a summer party pack package, with a special discounted Summer Party Pack from €23 per person which includes admission ticket + 2 X €5 food/ drink vouchers and free race card for groups of 10 or more.
