Archive TV footage shows the opening of new Marist College in 1970s

RTE Archives has today shared footage online which shows the opening of the new Marist College in Athlone on May 25, 1973.

The 31 second clip depicts the official blessing of the new Marist College which was performed by Most Rev Dr Cathal B Daly, Bishop of Ardagh and Clonmacnoise. Former Minister for Justice Patrick Cooney officially declared the new secondary school open.

The Marist Brothers opened their first school in Athlone in 1884 at St Mary’s Square.
