Athlone Choral Society celebrates 30 years with summer concert
Athlone Choral Society is delighted to perform again this summer with guests Iontas Choir and Daren Lane. Over its 30 years hundreds of people have been welcomed and sang with the choir from all across the midlands. While many have come and gone, the society is excited that some of the members from the first choir will be performing on the evening. They sound and look as good as ever! The choir's newest members will also make their debut this weekend.
The 30th Anniversary Summer Performance will take place in St Mary's Catholic Church at 7pm on May 27. Information and tickets are available on the event website at: https://www.eventcreate.com/e/acssummerconcert. A limited number of tickets will also be available on the door on the evening.
Athlone Choral Society is an active community choir with over 40 members from across the midlands. The repertoire of the choir is a mix of classics and modern. If you would like to understand more about the choir and/or if you are interested in joining in the coming season (September 2023) please come and chat to members after the concert or email athlonechoralsocietypro@gmail.com.
The society has thanked the Iontas choir members, their musical director Giselle Foley, Moate Community School and of course the wonderful parents that support their teenagers to develop their musical potential. The Choral Society also thanks Daren Lane for his wonderful contribution this year and in years gone by. The society is also grateful to Andrius Kozlovskis, its musical director for the last ten years.
Iontas is a four-part mixed choir in Moate Community School where students must audition to be a member. This choir has been very successful over the last few years, participating at Sligo Choral Festival, Arklow Choral festival, Feis Ceoil and the Interschools music festival at Wesley winning 1st and 2nd place. They are also the reigning champions of the last All Island Choir Competition in 2014.
They have been invited to sing at many prestigious events such as the 1916 commemoration mass in Collins Barracks where they met President Michael D. Higgins. The choir has also performed live on the “Afternoon Show” on TV3 as well as many events in the local area. Iontas are delighted to to perform with Athlone Choral on this very special evening of their 30th Anniversary.
