Athlone natives team up to release single about emigrating from Ireland

Two Athlone men, PJ Stacey and JP Burke have joined together once again to release the single 'The Immigrant Song' which is about the pride in one's native land.

JP wrote the lyrics and PJ composed the music for the new track.

The catchy song focuses on emigrating and reminiscing about home, it mentions myths of the country as well as well-known artists such as Sinead O'Connor, John McCormack, WB Yeats and various sporting greats.

The musical duo previously wrote a song together entitled 'IRELAND, Mother Ireland' which evolved into an up tempo number from a poem written by JP.

PJ has been involved in music for over 55 years as a singer, organist, French Horn player and also as a music teacher. He has been the choirmaster for Ss Peter’s and Paul’s Church for over 30 years.

Speaking previously JP said: “I know a lot of emigrants in America and many have commented favourably about my poems, so I thought I’d write something for emigrants and that’s where ‘Ireland, Mother Ireland’ came about.”

“I grew up about four doors away from where John McCormack was born in The Bawn and I always felt it was something to be proud of, that we came from where he came from,” added JP.

JP has written ten crime novels, most of which are part of a series featuring Detective Sergeant Scobie Tierney.
