Group to walk Camino in support of bereaved parents
Bereaved parents from across the Midlands will benefit from a major fundraising drive this month when a group of people from all corners of the country embark on a walk of the famed Camino de Santiago in Spain on behalf of Anam Cara.
Anam Cara was set up to support bereaved parents, and holds fourteen face to face meetings across the country each and every month. Every parent present at the meetings have many things in common, however the most significant being, the loss of a child. Taking that first step to attend a meeting, in many cases, can be the toughest. But every bereaved parent who attends, has made that first step. There is no time limit on how long a bereaved parent can attend – their child may have died a month ago, a year ago or several years ago, all are welcome.
The next Midlands meeting of Anam Cara takes place in the Mullingar Park Hotel on Wednesday night of next week, May 10, at 7.15pm. All bereaved parents are welcome, regardless of the age of the child or circumstances of death. Any bereaved parent in the Midlands and surrounds is welcome to attend.
The fundraising group undertaking the Camino walk will spend a week in Spain, walking from sunrise to sunset for six days. The route will take them across woodlands, farmland, and rustic hamlets, following tracks and paths lined by granite stone walls. The green rolling landscape of Galicia is part of each day’s walk, until they approach the mythical city of Santiago de Compostela. Each will receive their ‘Compostela’ certificate and explore the magic of Santiago’s Old Town. The group will be accompanied by Anam Cara Chairman, Tony Mahon and Fundraising Manager, Jamie Conway.
