Two men charged over separate Ballinasloe incidents last week

Two men have appeared before the courts in connection with separate incidents at homes in the Ballinasloe area last week.

One of the incidents took place at a house in Ballinasloe on Monday last, April 17, and is alleged to have involved a tenant of the property being threatened by man carrying a circular saw.

A man was subsequently arrested and charged with an offence contrary to the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act, 1997.

He appeared before a sitting of Loughrea District Court on Thursday last.

Separately, a Garda spokesperson said officers attended an incident of aggravated burglary at a residence in the East Galway town at approximately 12:30am on Friday last, April 21.

A male in his 30s was later arrested in relation to this incident. He was charged and appeared before Castlerea District Court on Friday morning.

A Garda spokesperson said that, as these matters were now before the courts, no further comment would be provided.

A third incident took place in the Brackernagh area of Ballinasloe last Saturday, and saw damage being caused to a vehicle.

The Garda press office said today (Tuesday) that no arrests had been made at this stage in relation to the incident on Saturday, and that enquiries were ongoing.
