Athlone Ulster Bank branch closing for good tomorrow

One of the most prominent town centre bank branches in Athlone will close permanently tomorrow, Friday, April 21.

The Ulster Bank outlet on Mardyke Street, and its ATM services, will shut as the bank continues its exit from the Republic of Ireland.

The Athlone branch is one of 63 branches that are closing across the country tomorrow, having ceased transactions at the end of last month.

Earlier this year, 25 of Ulster Bank's Irish branches were transferred to Permanent TSB, but the Athlone premises was not among this group.

In January, Ulster Bank issued an update on its redundancy programmes, indicating that 600 of its staff would be leaving through voluntary redundancy in the early months of this year, while other staff were transferring to Permanent TSB and AIB.
