Athlone Town preparing for visit of table-toppers Galway tonight

Athlone Town have made a decent start to this year's SSE Airtricity League First Division campaign, but they will face their toughest test to date this evening (Friday) when table-toppers Galway United visit Lissywollen for a 7.45pm kick-off.

The Tribesmen, managed by Lecarrow native John Caulfield, have an unblemished record of six wins from six games, and are six points clear of second-placed Bray Wanderers.

Athlone, managed by Gordon Brett and Dermot Lennon, have three wins and a draw from their six outings, and sit fourth in the table.

Last Friday, in the club's first-ever meeting with league newcomers Kerry FC, Athlone returned from the Kingdom with the three points courtesy of a late winner from substitute Valerii Dolia.

Speaking to galwayunitedfc.ie ahead of tonight's game, John Caulfield said his side was eager to maintain its 100% record.

"(Athlone) are really powerful up front in the forward positions, but at the same time, we're on a really good run of form and we want to keep it going," he said.

Athlone Town's women's team played Galway United in a league fixture in Lissywollen on Wednesday, with Galway coming out on top on a 2-1 scoreline.

Tickets for tonight's game will be on sale at the gate or can be purchsed online from the club here.

The game will also be streamed on LOITV. The match stream is included in the €120 LOITV season pass, or it can be purchased on a one-off basis for €5.
