Three seek title of Lord of the Mount in Caulry GAA fundraiser

by David Flynn

A group of fundraising events are planned for the coming weeks and months to benefit on-going development at the Caulry GAA clubhouse

The events will culminate on the Sunday night of the June Bank Holiday at Egan's pub in Mount Temple, where three individuals will count their charity takings to see which will be crowned Lord of the Mount. The trio, John G. Buckley, Richie Higgins and Mark Malone are each doing fundraising in various events for the benefit of Caulry GAA.

John is working on a raffle for a chance to win the supply and installation of 15 Solar PV Panels, with a 25-year warranty.

The prize is sponsored by Start Solar and includes a 5KW battery storage, a MyEnergi Hot Water diverter and a post instalment full BER assessment. John’s prize is valued at €15,000. The Solar Prize draw will be on Wednesday, May 10 and will take place in Mount Temple Community Hall. Tickets are €30 and to purchase one, simply google “Caulry Solar” or view the Caulry GAA Lord of the Mount Development Fundraiser Facebook page, which has a link to buy tickets.

Richie is involved in the organising of a concert involving international stars who have local links to Caulry, namely Foster and Allen with Moira Fraser and their friends including musicians, TR Dallas, Lisa Grennan, Mick Mulhern and the Parish Sensations.

The show will open at 8pm on Friday, March 31 at Tuar Ard, Moate and tickets for €30 are currently on sale from Tuar Ard. MC on the night will be Tom Curtin. Richie will also be running a mock wedding event in Mount Temple on Sunday, April 30.

Mark is organising a raffle for the opportunity to win ten tonnes of agricultural fertiliser or its cash value on the date of the draw which is April 24 (current value €8,500).

The soaring cost of fertiliser makes this a very attractive prize for farmers and the cash value is also an exciting prospect. Tickets are €20 – to purchase one, simply google “Caulry Green Grass” or view The Caulry GAA Lord of the Mount Development Fundraiser Facebook page which has a link to buy tickets.

The 95-year-old club, Caulry GAA (founded in 1928) are planning a new development to compliment the new all-weather pitch which was opened in 2019. Both the Men’s and Ladies sections of the club have continued to grow, and they now have over 400 playing members from nursery to adult level.

To cater for these growing numbers the next phase of the development plan will include, two new dressing rooms, physio room, toilet facilities and a gymnasium located on the upper floor.
