Willow Park to learn FAI Senior Cup draw today

Willow Park are in the hat for the Preliminary Round draw for the 2023 Extra.ie FAI Senior Cup today (Wednesday)

The Athlone side qualified for the draw, thanks to their FAI Intermediate Cup adventures this season, which ended at the quarter final stage, away to Cork outfit, Ringmahon Rangers.

The teams in the last 16 of the FAI Intermediate Cup are invited to enter the senior cup at the preliminary round stage, along with the semi-finalists in the FAI Junior Cup.

With 20 teams in the hat, the preliminary draw will involve eight fixtures and four byes into the first round

The 20 SSE Airtricity League Premier Division and First Division teams will enter the competition at the first round stage.

These 20, along with the four byes, and the eight winners of the preliminary round ties, will comprise the last 32 of the cup.

Willow Park's involvement means that two local sides will be taking part in this season's FAI Senior Cup, with League of Ireland side Athlone Town FC also automatically entered in the flagship cup competition in Irish football.

The draw for the preliminary round takes place today (Wednesday) and the fixtures for the preliminary round will take place on the weekend ending Sunday, April 9.
