Former Athlone nursing home accommodating arrivals from Ukraine

Mont Vista, the former nursing home facility for La Sainte Union sisters on the Retreat Road in Athlone, is the latest building in the town to be used to provide accommodation for people who have come to Ireland from Ukraine.

Mont Vista, which is situated on the Retreat Road, is understood to have seen the arrival of 50 Ukrainian nationals last weekend.

The facility is believed to have capacity to accommodate 140 people in total, and it's anticipated that this capacity will be reached over the coming weeks.

The La Sainte Union sisters, the order associated with Our Lady's Bower in Athlone, moved out of the Mont Vista home in 2016 and the facility was subsequently sold.
