Cill Óige ladies reach junior final at Páidí Ó Sé tournament

With current Rose of Tralee Rachel Duffy starring at centre-back, Cill Óige managed to reach the junior ladies final at the Lidl Comórtas Peile Páidí Ó Sé - the famed Gaelic football tournament which took place last weekend across the Dingle Peninsula.

The Westmeath club beat Kerry’s Annascaul/Castlegregory by 1-9 to 2-3 in the straight semi-final.

The Rosemount/Castledaly combination faced another local side Daingean Uí Chúis ladies from Dingle in the final. The teams were neck and neck throughout the match, but Cill Óige were unlucky to lose out by a last-minute point from the locals to lose 1-4 to 1-3.

Comórtas chairman Padraig Óg Ó Sé (son of the late Páidí Ó Sé) commented: “This is a massive showcase for West Kerry and we are happy to say the power and draw of this tournament for those interested in Gaelic games is still massive.

"Thanks to Cill Óige for joining us and keeping that great link the tournament has with the county.”

The football festival, which was founded by eight-time All-Ireland winner with Kerry, Páidí Ó Sé (also a former Westmeath manager), is supported by Lidl Ireland, EJ Menswear, Kerry County Council Tourism Unit, Fáilte Ireland and Údarás na Gaeltachta. It has attracted over 18,000 club players since it was founded in 1989.

With 22 teams - making up over 550 panel members, management and supporters - taking part in ladies and men’s Gaelic football competitions at junior, intermediate and senior level, the ‘Comórtas’ delivered a feast of football to West Kerry.
