Drizzle and rain today with temperatures falling later

Weather update from Met Éireann

Settled and cool with some frosty nights. That's the latest outlook from the national weather forecaster with temperatures set to drop sharply later tonight.

This morning will be mostly cloudy with patches of drizzle, mist and fog. Rain will develop in the west early this afternoon and will move east across the country, not reaching the east until late evening. Highest temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees with moderate to fresh and gusty southerly winds.

Wet and breezy early tonight with moderate to fresh southerly winds. Rain will clear eastwards overnight and will be followed by clear spells and scattered showers, some heavy and possibly of hail. With the clearance of the rain, winds will become westerly and ease light to moderate. It will become colder too, with minimum temperatures of -1 to +3 degrees, so frost and ice are possible.

Wednesday will be cold with sunshine and scattered blustery showers. Some of the showers will be heavy, with hail and thunder possible, and some may turn wintry over hills. Afternoon temperatures of 5 to 9 degrees, but feeling colder due to a brisk northwesterly wind.

Showers will become isolated early on Wednesday night, leaving mostly dry and clear conditions. Cloud will increase in the northwest towards morning though, bringing in a few more showers. Cold with frost and possibly ice, as temperatures drop to between -1 and +3 degrees.

Thursday morning will be mostly dry with sunny spells. It will become cloudier through the day and a few light showers will develop. Highest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees with a light to moderate northwesterly wind.

Partly cloudy skies on Thursday night with isolated light showers, so most areas will stay dry. Lowest temperatures of 1 to 6 degrees, coldest in the south, with light northwesterly winds.

Friday is expected mostly cloudy and dry, with just patches of light rain near northern coasts. Highest temperatures of 8 to 10 degrees with a light to moderate north to northwest wind.

Dry with clear spells developing overnight on Friday. Lowest temperatures of 0 to 4 degrees with a light northerly breeze.

Looking ahead to the weekend and it's promised dry with light winds and sunshine at times. Highest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees. Cold by night with widespread frost likely.
