Ash Wednesday Mass in the Friary

Mass will be celebrated on Ash Wednesday on February 22 in the Friary Church at 8am.

After Mass, ashes will be distributed and will be available throughout the day in the church.

The Friary was packed to overflowing in mid-January as the Franciscan community held a Mass of thanksgiving to formally bid farewell to the town after 788 years.

The church has remained open since for private prayer with the help of volunteers who open and close the building. Two Masses are celebrated each week on Tuesday at 10am and Sunday Mass at 9.30am.

When a new Bishop is appointed to oversee the Ardagh and Clonmacnoise diocese, the future of the Friary church is expected to be reviewed.
