Most successful fundraising year for Tree of Remembrance Appeal

The Annual Tree of Remembrance Appeal by Athlone Rotary Club had its most successful fundraising year to date at Christmas.

This year an amazing €14,330 was raised from both the on street collection and GoFundMe page, in the lead up up to Christmas.

The funds raised went to three incredible charities – St Hilda's and Athlone Sub-Aqua Search & Rescue Club both receiving €6,000 each and the remaining €2,330 going to Rotary charities many of which are local. As always the Rotarian members are proud to announce that no expenses are taken from the money raised.

For the second year running a GoFundMe page was set up and has proven to be a very successful additional source of donations. This additional feature will continue to be used in the future.

Pat Ryan, President of the Athlone Rotary Club, expressed his gratitude. “We are thrilled with the support from all the people in and around Athlone especially during these very challenging times, as without your generous donations we wouldn’t achieve the success we do for the charities ”.

“We were very grateful to the continued support and participation of the Rotarian members, all the charity volunteers who gave their valuable time," he said.

He also praised the local council for their assistance in relation to the Christmas Tree at the Civic Centre and all the businesses - Athlone Towncentre, Dunnes, Irishtown, Applegreen, Supervalu Monksland, Supervalu Ballymahon Road and Kilmartins N6 which facilitated collection points.

The Remembrance Tree Appeal has been a regular sight in Athlone over the past 12 years and has now raised over €120,000 for local charities.

The club wish to acknowledge the enormous contribution John Fagan, Sean O’Laiode, Aisha Chaudhry, Phillip McGorisk and his team and all club members made to the success of the fundraiser.

Club members were very much encouraged by the support and understanding of the people of Athlone.
