Casting call for new Athlone play

Fancy starting the New Year by getting on stage??? Readings will be held in Athlone Little Theatre for the second production of 2023 'Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?', directed by Ollie Hegarty, on Tuesday and Wednesday, January 3 and 4 next at 8pm.

All are welcome to come along and try out for parts on-stage and positions backstage and in other areas of the production.

The cast of four comprises of Martha (early 50s but looks younger), George (mid 40s) married to Martha, Honey (mid 20s), who is married to Nick (30s). The play is set in New England (USA) in 1960.

Written by Edward Albee, the play was first staged in October 1962 to huge acclaim before going onto win multiple awards.

It examines the complexities of the marriage of a middle-aged couple, Martha and George. Late one evening, after a university faculty party, they receive an unwitting younger couple, Nick and Honey as guests, and draw them into their bitter and frustrated relationship.

The film adaptation released in 1966 starred Richard Burton, Elizabeth Taylor, George Segal and Sandy Dennis.
