Status Orange low temperature and ice weather warnings issued for next two nights
A Status Orange low temperature/ice warning for Westmeath and 18 other counties will come into effect at 6pm this evening.
Met Éireann says that temperatures will fall to below -5 degrees in many parts of the country tonight and could fall to as low as -10 or -11 in some isloated areas. The low temperatures will lead to severe frost and ice in many areas.
Met Eireann has also issued a Status Orange weather warning for tomorrow that will come into effect from 6pm until midday on Friday.
Speaking to the Westmeath Examiner this week, Cathal Nolan of the Irish Weather Channel said that temperatues should start to rise on Friday afternoon.
“We will go back to more typically south westerly air flows with milder temperatures, perhaps above average, over the weekend. That brings its own risks of heavy rain and the possibility of gale force winds in coastal area at times, in particular.
