Sean McNamara.

Westmeath farmer in ICSA election

The contest to become the next national president of the ICSA is nearing the end and a Westmeath man is one of two candidates in the running following the conclusion of the formal nomination process.

Sean McNamara is a sheep, beef, and suckler farmer from Lismacaffrey, who has held the position of ICSA Sheep chair for four years.

Sean is up against Dermot Kelleher, a suckler farmer from Inchigeela in west Cork. He is the current national president of the ICSA and is aiming to continue his tenure for another two years. Mr Kelleher previously served as chair of ICSA’s Suckler committee and as ICSA Munster vice-president.

The election will take place in the Midlands Park Hotel in Portlaoise on the evening of Wednesday December 14. Proceedings will begin at 7pm.

Each candidate will make a presentation to the association’s national executive, which will be followed by a Q&A session with the candidates.

The vote will follow, and a result is expected at 9pm.
