IN PICTURES: Reunion of Kilbeggan Shamrocks’ 1972 and 1992 JFC-winning teams
There was a terrific turnout for the 50th-anniversary reunion of Kilbeggan Shamrocks’ 1972 junior football championship-winning team, and the 30th-anniversary reunion of the club’s 1992 JFC-winning team last Saturday night in Larrigy’s.
Team members came from near and far to catch up and reminisce about the good old days. From the 1972 team, Martin Duignam came from England, while Dominic Scally and Jim Ryan travelled from Cork and Mayo respectively. Ray Kinahan – who played on later Kilbeggan teams – also made the trip from Leeside.
PRO Randal Scally thanked everyone who came and passed on the apologies of those who were unable to attend. He also noted how the double reunion was the brainchild of 1992 captain Dermot Smith and wouldn’t have happened without him. 1992 trainer Matt Geraghty also shared his recollections of that year’s treble of JFC, JFL and Junior cup wins, and spoke glowingly of the players from that era.
Kilbeggan Shamrocks GAA has extended a special word of thanks to Frank Larrigy and his staff for providing finger food and hosting the night of nostalgia.
