Local nursing home announces closure
Tearmainn Bhríde Nursing Home in Brideswell is set to close its doors after close to 25 years in business, it's been confirmed.
The sad news comes just days after the Stella Maris Nursing in nearby Baylough pulled down the shutters.
In a statement today, the Curley family, who run the South Roscommon nursing home acknowledged that it was a very difficult decision - but said there was no option because the home was "no longer viable to see us in to the future".
Although the nursing home recently received planning approval to extend to a new 60-bed modern nursing home, the family said they were "unable to secure a financial partner to carry us forward".
The statement issued by the family reads: "Today marks a very sad day for us all at Tearmainn Bhríde Nursing Home as we announce the closure of our home after 25 years in business.
"Our family run nursing home was privileged to care for all the residents who came through our doors, each one leaving a lasting memory.
"To our incredible staff, past and present, we will never be able to thank you for your loyalty and commitment over the years, you went above and beyond your call of duty to care for our residents. For this we are deeply indebted.
"To the local community a big thank you for being tremendously supportive to us since we were established in 1997.
"It was a very difficult decision to close but we really had no option as the nursing home is no longer viable to see us into the future.
"Although we had received planning permission recently after significant investment to extend to a new 60-bed modern nursing home, unfortunately we were unable to secure a financial partner to carry us forward, mainly due to the low fair deal rate and the current economic climate therefore making it wholly unattractive.
"We will endeavour over the next number of weeks to compassionately work with all the families to find new homes for our wonderful residents.
"Finally, we have forged fantastic relationships and fabulous memories of everyone who has passed through our doors. These memories will leave a lasting imprint in our lives forever," the statement signed by Aidan, Teresa, PJ and all the Curley family ends.
The South Roscommon nursing home employs over 30 people.
