Potential for Westmeath water outages in areas including Moate and Ballymore
Irish Water has advised people that there's potential for water supply disruption on two days next week in areas of Westmeath including parts of Moate and Ballymore.
In a statement issued this morning (Friday), the utility said short-term outages were possible on Wednesday next, August 24, from 10am, and on Saturday, August 27, from 12am.
The homes and businesses that may be affected are those supplied by the Portloman Water Treatment Plant in Mullingar.
The areas where outages and/or low water pressure may occur include Moate, Ballymore, Kilbeggan, Mullingar, Knockfrin, Killucan, Kinnegad, Milltownpass, Rochfortbridge, Tyrrellspass, Castletown Geoghegan, Ballinacarrigy, Ballinalack, Rathowen and surrounding areas.
Irish Water added, however, the risk of outages was "low" and the areas where supply disruption might occur would be "more localised" than the above list suggests.
Crews would make every effort to minimise the disruption to impacted customers, it added.
"We expect to have our clearwater tanks full, enabling the reservoirs to be replenished, as soon as possible, once the plant comes back into service to minimise any foreseen water outages for the local community," commented John Gavin, Regional Asset Operations Lead with Irish Water.
"Irish Water understands that any outages can be inconvenient and working in partnership with our contractors, we will make every effort to minimise the disruption.
"These works are being carefully planned to reduce the risk of disruptions to water supply to customers, but there is a small chance that some areas may have temporary supply issues for a short time over the period of the notice."
