Change of referee for Tailteann Cup final
There has been a change of referee for this Saturday's Tailteann Cup senior football final between Westmeath and Cavan at Croke Park (throw-in 3pm).
Maurice Deegan of Laois had been listed to referee the final of the inaugural competition, but Derry's Barry Cassidy will now take charge of the game. The GAA confirmed the change this afternoon (Wednesday).
The eagerly awaited contest is part of an attractive double header, with Galway taking on Derry in the first of the All-Ireland SFC semi-finals afterwards (5.30pm). The second of the semi-finals is between old rivals Kerry and Dublin on Sunday.
Tickets for the Westmeath v Cavan game will be available to purchase at TEG Cusack Park this evening (Wednesday), July 6 from 6pm to 8pm.
Tickets are also available to buy on the Ticketmaster website, and in SuperValu, Moate and in the Centra shops in Kilbeggan and Mullingar.
Meanwhile, Roscommon's Dr Hyde Park will host what will be a historic All-Ireland final between Galway and Mayo this Friday evening (7.15pm).
Galway and Mayo have never met in an All-Ireland decider in any of the three main grades of GAA competition - senior, U20/U21 or minor.
Mayo beat Galway twice in this year's Connacht minor championship, including the provincial final, but the Tribesmen will be hoping for a different outcome with the Tom Markham Cup at stake on Friday evening.
