Big Buccaneers links to first test in Auckland

Three Buccaneers players have been named in the Ireland squad to play New Zealand in Saturday’s first test match.

Robbie Henshaw starts in the centre while hooker Dave Heffernan and prop Finlay Bealham are on the bench.

Interestingly, the All Blacks have a trio with Buccs connection in their starting XV also. The Barrett brothers Beauden, Jordie and Scott were whipper-snappers around Dubarry Park when their father Kevin ‘Smiley’ Barrett played with the Pirates!

The Barretts’ parents, Kevin and Robyn, moved briefly to Ireland with their family in 1999, after Kevin, a dairy farmer, got the opportunity to run a farm in Ballinacree in County Meath.

Kevin aka “Smiley” Barrett – who has himself a distinguished rugby career behind him – played with side Buccaneers while in Ireland.

So come along to the club on Saturday morning and watch the big game live on all the screens in The Bounty.

Doors open at 7.45 a.m. and breakfast rolls served at half-time.
