Work of Athlone air ambulance to be shown on RTE's Nationwide this evening

The Athlone-based air ambulance is celebrating its tenth anniversary, and the important work that it carries out will be highlighted during a special episode of RTE's Nationwide programme this evening (Friday).

The air ambulance, formally named the Emergency Aeromedical Service, has operated out of Athlone's Custume Barracks since June 2012.

Its role is to get the most urgent care to those who need it most quickly, often in very remote parts of the country.

Nationwide went out on a call with the Air Corps crew and the National Ambulance Service paramedics as they airlifted their 3,000th patient to hospital.

The programme is being broadcast on RTE One at 7pm this evening, Friday, June 3.
