Another away game for Westmeath in Tailteann Cup
Westmeath have been drawn away to Carlow in the quarter-finals of the Tailteann Cup.
It means that Westmeath have avoided near neighbours Offaly, who have been drawn against New York.
Westmeath had to overcome the loss of team captain Kevin Maguire to a straight red card in the hard-earned win over Laois in Portlaoise yesterday (Sunday). An appeal of the red card may be lodged depending on what video evidence shows.
Athlone's Ray Connellan missed the Laois game through injury and the Westmeath camp will be hoping the talented midfielder will be available to face Carlow.
For their part, Carlow claimed a surprise win over 2020 Munster champions Tipperary at the weekend.
The draw for Tailteann Cup quarter-finals was made on RTE Radio 1 this morning (Monday).
In the Northern Section quarter-finals, there will be two local derbies with Leitrim hosting Sligo and competition favourites Cavan travelling to Fermanagh.
All the quarter-finals will take place this weekend (June 4/5), with the dates and times to be confirmed later. There will be an open draw for the semi-finals with no division between the southern and northern sections.
