St Joseph's Rochfortbridge has created a memorial award in honour of late student

St Joseph's Secondary School Rochfortbridge has created a student award in honour of the late Alanna Lenehan, who passed away last year.

The inaugural Alanna Lenehan Award will be presented tomorrow evening when the school hosts 'A Night of Creativity' where students' work in a range of creative and practical subjects will be on show.

On the night there will be a fabulous display of art, craft and design work, woodwork, metalwork and home economics from pupils studying those subjects. Additionally the music department will be putting on a short recital, the first year art pupils are planning on putting on a fashion show of their own pieces and we will also be treated to an exciting dance display.

“We are so delighted to be hosting this evening celebrating the creative arts in the school,” said Ms Sweeney, art teacher.

“It is wonderful after two years of a hiatus due to Covid restrictions to be in a position to show off the talents and hard work of our pupils in these areas. This is a pupil led event and many thanks must be given to the fifth year art pupils who have been working hard assisting Ms Deegan, Ms Gallagher and I in sorting out and displaying all of the work for the exhibition. No mean feat, I can tell you! We are also very pleased to present the inaugural Alanna Lenehan award for outstanding artistic contribution to the school to its first recipient on Wednesday night. We are so excited to be holding this event and would like to invite you all to attend, admire the pupil’s hard work and creative endeavours and enjoy the show.”

Alanna Lenehan passed away in September last year after a brave battle against cancer. The 16 year old from Rhode was a valued member of the school community in St Joseph's.

The event starts at 6.30pm.
