Our Lady’s Bower and the Marist College bring us back to the 80s

There may never be another decade again that so greatly shaped the pop culture world like the 1980s.

What endures most from that decade? The music! From pop, rock, heavy metal, boy bands and girl bands, rap, R& B etc. this remains the ultimate music decade.

The musical ‘Back to the 80s’ transports us to William Ocean High School and introduces this music to another generation. The students of Our Lady’s Bower and the Marist College have chosen this musical to celebrate their welcome return to live entertainment. And what a show is promised!

The ensemble is huge, with over 100 talented and enthusiastic performers bringing the story to life.

Huge credit must go to director Aishling Fennell, who has earned a wonderful reputation for her productions and this will be her ninth consecutive show with the schools.

‘Back to the 80s’ tells the story of Corey Palmer ((James Heaslip) and his senior year of high school. In the present day, Corey takes us back to William Ocean High School, watching himself and his friends Kirk (Rian Claffey) and Alf (Eoin Sheeran) start their bid to be senior class president and vice-presidents, only to have the opportunity stolen by bully Michael (Alex Ratcliffe).

To make Corey’s life worse, Michael has also stolen away Tiffany (Jessica Collins), Corey’s long time crush. But this isn’t the only relationship on the rocks: teachers Mr. Cocker (Donal McDermott) and Ms. Brannigan (Kate Gartland) have trouble in their not-so-secret romance, Michael is posing as new girl Eileen’s (Lucy Rogers) mysterious secret admirer, and Tiffany’s friend Cyndi (Katie Rose-Reid) doesn’t want to give admirer Billy (Andrew Stuart Trainor) the time of day.

Andrew Sheffield plays young Corey and other leading actors are Eoin Kane (Fergal), Cara Dillon (Debbie), Swastika Thangadurai (Laura), Lucy Rogers (Eileen), Eva Glynn (Mel), Lucy Egan (Kim), Luke Whelan (Huey) and Adam Kenny who plays the radio presenter. The jukebox score includes “Video Killed The Radio Star”, “Total Eclipse of the Heart”, “Footloose” and “Time of my Life”. With stunning choreography and dance routines, delightful vocals and great comedy this show promises a wonderful night’s entertainment. Don’t miss it! Back to the 80s continues in the Dean Crowe Theatre at 8pm tonight (Thursday) and tomorrow (Friday)
