Local composer nominated for prestigious film awards

Composer Amie Doherty has been recognised by the International Film Music Critics for her work on movie scores.

Amie, from Ballinasloe, has been nominated in two categories in this year's International Film Music Critics Awards. She is nominated for Breakthrough Composer of the Year and for Best Original Score for an animated feature.

Amie's music in Spirit Untamed is up against some amazing competition for best original score. The other animated films in the category are Encanto, Luca and Raya The Last Dragon.

Amie said she is “thrilled to be nominated for Breakthrough Composer of the Year and Best Original Score for an Animated Feature.”

The talented composer is based in Los Angeles and has worked on music for major television and film productions. She made history as the first female composer to score a DreamWorks Animated feature film with Spirit Untamed.

The animation is a sequel to 'Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron' and the recent Netflix series 'Spirit Riding Free'.

Amie also won the 'Best Score for an Animated Short' award at the 2019 Hollywood Music in Media awards. She worked as an Orchestrator and Conductor on Lady Gaga's album, Chromatica and has performed with 50 Cent.

The Galway native studied Music at Trinity College Dublin and received Master's in Scoring for Film, Television, and Video Game from Berklee College of Music. She became a Sundance Composer Fellow in 2016 and has lived and worked in London, South Korea, Vietnam, India, and Spain.

Recent orchestration and conducting work by Amie includes the series Picard, and Star Trek: Discovery, Emmy and Golden Globe winners Fargo and The Night Of, as well as Netflix's The Umbrella Academy.
