New managerial post for Frankie Dolan
Former St Brigid's football star Frankie Dolan has been appointed as the new manager of the Roscommon Gaels senior football team.
Dolan won a significant collection of honours during his playing career with St Brigid's, including an All-Ireland senior club medal in 2013. He also led the Kiltoom club to Roscommon SFC success as a manager.
The former Roscommon attacker managed Doon of Offaly last year, having previously been in charge of Westmeath club Rosemount.
Dolan, who lives quite close to the Roscommon Gaels grounds in Lisnamult, will be hoping his new charges can challenge for the Fahey Cup in 2022.
Former Roscommon defender Michael 'Mixer' Ryan and John McHale will be part of Dolan's management team with the Roscommon town outfit. Anthony Jinks (well known for his tough fitness classes in Kiltoom) is also set to assist with the physical training of the team.
Confirming the appointment of Dolan, Roscommon Gaels GAA posted: "No stranger to Roscommon Gaels over the past few years, Frankie, who resides in the locality and with his kids involved in the underage side of the club, there is a new air of excitement and expectation with the vast knowledge and experience Dolan will bring to the team".
Roscommon Gaels last won the senior county title in 2004 and their most recent county final appearance (2019) ended in defeat to current Connacht club champions Padraig Pearses.
Frankie won a Connacht SFC medal with Roscommon in 2001 and his brothers, Garvan and Darren, also won several honours with St Brigid's. Their father Frank was a winner of Westmeath senior championship medals with Athlone.
