Organisers hail support for Christmas Market

Cllr Frankie Keena has sincerely thanked everyone who attended the five-day Athlone Christmas Market with the good weather adding to a very enjoyable festive atmosphere.

"This year our timber market cabins were completely booked out by local traders selling bargain gifts for Christmas. It was great to see the support been given to these traders and special thanks to everyone for that," he added.

"Our timber market cabins are attractive and of a very high spec which compliments the excellent products that were on sale," Cllr Keena, who is Cathaoirleach of Westmeath County Council, stressed.

"The success of this market has now resulted in huge interest from other traders looking for cabins next year," according to Gerry McInerney from Athlone Chamber. "As it stands we have a waiting list on standby," he added.

"We now have identified the correct ingredient for a successful market. The Chamber is fully supportive of local traders selling local produce," Mr McInerney, who is CEO of Athlone Chamber said.

Cllr Frankie Keena also thanked Westmeath County Council for its financial support of the event and Spectrum Signs for sponsoring the signs.

Concluding, Cllr Frankie Keena and Gerry McInerney wished everyone a very happy and safe Christmas and every good wish in the New Year.
