Athlone to feature on tonight's episode of Sharon Shannon's 'Heartlands' TV show

Athlone will be featured on this evening's episode of the Heartlands travel and music show hosted by Sharon Shannon on TG4.

The four-part series began last week. During the episode this evening (Wednesday, August 18) the popular Galway-based musician will start by visiting parts of Leitrim, Roscommon and Longford.

After playing music with Nathan Carter at Richmond Harbour in Longford she travels to Athlone, spending time at Baysports in Hodson Bay.

In 2018, the Henshaws joined forces with Sharon to record an album in aid of the South Westmeath Hospice, and she again meets up with the well-known Athlone family for "a chat and a tune" during this evening's programme.

The wider Athlone area will also be featured in the third programme in the series next Wednesday, August 25, as Sharon visits Helen Conneely's Celtic Roots Studio in Ballinahown, before going to Clonmacnoise.

A music session at Luker's in Shannonbridge, featuring renowned accordionist Seamus Begley, will also be shown next week's episode.

The series was created in conjunction with Fáilte Ireland and is designed to showcase the variety of attractions on offer throughout the region.
