Wood for the trees event in Lecarrow for Heritage Week

Roscommon County Council has announced three guided woodland walks to take place during Heritage Week this month.

All three walks will be led by Michael Bell, founder of Nature Learn, Chairman of the Sligo Branch of BirdWatch Ireland and a wildlife expert with the Heritage in Schools Scheme.

At several locations along the way, Roscommon poets will read their prize-winning nature poems from the Creative Ireland funded Nature Poetry Prize 2020.

On Tuesday, August 17 at 11am Michael will guide attendees in Lough Key through the woods and the pathways of this magnificent forest park. Meeting Point: outside Visitor Centre. The poems on this tour will be read by Louise G Cole and by Marian Griffin.

On Wednesday, August 18 at 11am, it's the turn of Mote Park, close to Roscommon town where attendees will meet at the lay-by, approximately 1 km from the entrance, just off the N61 Athlone to Roscommon road. The poems on this tour will be read by Jessamine O' Connor.

The final woodland walk is on Thursday, August 19 at 11am in St John's Wood, Lecarrow.

Michael Bell, founder of Nature Learn, will guide walkers through the woods and the pathways of this old oak forest. Meeting Point: St. John’s Wood Car Park. The poems on this tour will be read by Susan Graham.
