Car badly damaged in single-vehicle Coosan accident

A car was severely damaged in a single-vehicle accident which took place on the road to Coosan Point in Athlone this week.

Sergeant Andrew Haran of Athlone Garda Station said local Gardai attended the scene of a single-vehicle collision which occurred on Wednesday evening and involved a Volkswagen Golf.

The car's windscreen was smashed, the front bumper was impacted, both sides of the vehicle were scraped and the roof was also damaged.

There was no driver present at the scene when the Gardai arrived, and the car was subsequently towed from the location of the crash to a safer place nearby.

Some damage was also caused to a wall in the area as a result of the collision on Wednesday.

Sergeant Haran said he could not comment on whether any injuries had been caused as a result of the crash, other than to say the Gardai had received no report of injuries arising from it.

The next meeting of the Athlone Moate Municipal District takes place on Monday, and the agenda includes a motion from Cllr Jamie Moran who is calling on the council to look at introducing safety measures on the road to Coosan Point.
