Contractor to be appointed to build MRI Unit at hospital
The HSE is set to appoint a contractor in the coming weeks to build the new unit to house the long awaited MRI Scanner at Midlands Regional Hospital Mullingar.
Following a query by Minister of State Robert Troy, the HSE Estates Division issued this reply:
“The Estates Division of the Health Services Executive have advised the Department that tenders for the MRI development in Regional Hospital Mullingar have just been returned and are currently being evaluated.
“HSE Estates have further advised that they hope to be in a position to appoint a Contractor in early Quarter 2, 2021.”
The news has been welcomed by Deputy Troy, who says that the construction of the new unit is a vote of confidence by the government in Mullingar hospital and the vital services that its staff provides for the people of Westmeath and neighbouring counties.
It is hoped that the new unit will be opened early next year.
