Henshaw shortlisted for Six Nations award
Athlone native Robbie Henshaw is one of six contenders for the Guinness Six Nations Player of the Championship for 2021.
Selected by an expert panel of 12 journalists and broadcasters – two from each nation – the six nominees are as follows: Tadhg Beirne (Ireland), Antoine Dupont (France), Taulupe Faletau (Wales), Robbie Henshaw (Ireland), Louis Rees-Zammit (Wales) and Hamish Watson (Scotland).
Arguably Ireland's most consistent player in the 2021 Six Nations, Henshaw was chosen for the official man of the match award as Ireland finished the campaign with an impressive victory over England.
In the citations on the award nominees, Henshaw was described as having an "excellent" championship and being "superb" against England, "running hard and tackling harder in a lung-busting performance".
"Henshaw’s energy in midfield, defensive solidity and excellence under the high ball all played a part in Ireland turning around their disappointing start to the Championship, and even in their opening defeat to Wales, Henshaw was excellent, setting up the sole Irish try for Tadhg Beirne."

Henshaw is one of four Ireland players named in the Six Nations 'team of the year'. Tadhg Furlong, Jonathan Sexton and Beirne complete the Irish quartet along with the Buccaneers clubman.
Meanwhile, Henshaw put in another storming performance as Leinster dismantled Munster yet again to win their fourth successive PRO14 title at the RDS last Saturday.
Leinster’s 16-6 winning margin did not reflect their dominance of the final and Henshaw was in magnificent form once again, the Westmeath man eclipsing World Cup winner Damien de Allende in the process.
Henshaw will now be aiming to keep his superb run of form going in the last 16 of the European Champions Cup at home to French outfit Toulon on Friday evening. The game at the RDS Arena kicks off at 5.30pm and will be live on BT Sport & RTÉ Radio.
