CNN video of Sean's Bar sparks huge reaction

A short video produced by CNN featuring Sean's Bar has drawn a huge online reaction.

The video, part of the channel's Great Big Story series, focuses on the search for the world's oldest pub.

The light-hearted segment visits four pubs, three in England as well as Sean's Bar.

To date, it has been seen more than one million times on Instagram, has almost 700,000 views on Facebook and has also been featured on the CNN website.

CNN says: “Let's just say it wasn't easy finding some of the world's oldest pubs. From Nottingham, England to Athlone, Ireland, watering holes all over Europe claim to have been pulling pints long before anyone else.”

Having visited Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem in Nottingham, Old Ferry Boat in Holywell in Cambridgeshire and Ye Olde Man and Scythe in Bolton, Jacob Harrell, producer of CNN's Great Big Story, travelled to Sean's Bar and interviewed Timmy Donovan.

Timmy told the programme: “There are many who claim to be the oldest, Well, we are fully researched and dated as the oldest.

“The bar is actually older than the town itself. Almost all of the owners are on record even back to the original owner Luain himself in 900."

Sean's Bar, on its website, said of the filming for the programme last year: “Jacob also learned to pour the perfect pint of Guinness, tasted Sean's Bar specially blended Irish whiskey and enjoyed the live traditional music while in Sean's. It was a wonderful experience to work with CNN and there was a great atmosphere in the pub throughout the filming.”
