More local pubs reopen in Athlone and surrounding areas
The recent news that the reopening of all pubs would not go ahead on August 10 came as a massive blow to the sector, but since then at least three more premises in Athlone and South Westmeath have announced that they are reopening, with food service, in compliance with the Covid-19 guidelines.
Athlone's Castle Inn reopened on Friday last, August 7, with a nearby restaurant, Portside, supplying the meals which customers are required to order.
In social media posts, The Castle Inn said it had installed hand sanitisers and screens between tables, and at the bar, in order to help protect the safety of its customers.
The pub thanked customers for their support since Friday's reopening, saying "it was so gratifying just to see people we haven't seen in months again."
In Moate, Peadar's Bar announced that it is reopening at 2pm today (Wednesday) after a five-month closure.
"A massive thank you for all the messages of support we have received over the past few days. We are looking forward to getting behind the bar again and offering our customers a new experience at Peadar's Bar," the pub stated.
It added that it would be adhering to "all Government and HSE Guidelines" and it asked customers to maintain social distancing.
"A massive thank you to the local businesses who are supplying our food in order for us to reopen," added Peadar's Bar.
Meanwhile, in Ballinahown, The Village Inn is reopening as a bar and bistro from this Friday, August 14. On social media, it said it was already fully booked for the night of its reopening.
"Please observe Covid-19 protocols by following signage and guidance from our team, thank you!" said the Village Inn.
