Maryland GAA set to host novel drive-in bingo event
Maryland GAA club will swap footballs for bingo balls this Sunday evening, August 9 as they host a novel drive-in bingo event at their Drumraney grounds.
The south Westmeath club will welcome cars full of families, all keen to try their luck in a game of bingo, with €2000 in cash prizes available. “Eyes Down” will have a 6pm start at the club’s Drumraney venue (eircode N37 WP26).
Amid the realities of living with Covid-19, drive-in events have become quite popular, with clubs around the country using their grounds to host such activities. Given the current restrictions on indoor events, Maryland are offering a safe environment for people of all ages to partake in a fun game of bingo from the comfort of their own car.
The event will have a strong sound system in place and will also allow participants to tune in via their car radio, meaning everyone should be able to track the game easily. The lucky ones who get a line, two lines or a full house can indicate their success by blowing their car horn.
A long book will cost €10, while a short book will cost €5, and both card and cash payments will be accepted. With a strong number of volunteers in place, there will be plenty of stewards to help with parking, and during the bingo itself.
A total of €2000 worth of prizes must be won on the night, with a top prize of €500 in the jackpot game.
The event is part of a fundraising drive by Maryland GAA to improve their grounds. The club is currently developing a floodlit walking track and is working on a training pitch. As the club also accommodates teams from Drumraney Camogie, Maryland/Tang underage GAA, Ardnagrath and Drumraney national schools, and Goldsmiths LGFA, the grounds are a hub for community activity.
The club hopes to attract participants from all over the midlands. Whether you know your bingo lingo or are a beginner at the game, all are welcome in what will be a fun, safe evening’s activity.
