Westmeath County Council opens online book of condolence on death of John Hume
People in Westmeath are being invited to sign an online book of condolence in memory of John Hume, after the death of the former SDLP leader and Nobel Laureate.
The online book of condolence was opened by the Cathaoirleach of Westmeath County Council, Cllr Ken Glynn.
“John Hume was a man of inclusion and peace, this country owes him so much thanks for all his great work,” said Cllr Glynn.
The council said it wished to extend its heartfelt sympathies at this time to Mr Hume's family, and to acknowledge the crucial role he played in bringing peace to the Island of Ireland.

It will remain open until Tuesday, August 18, at which time the messages will be shared with the Hume family.
