Musical fundraiser in aid of South Westmeath Hospice
Peddler Mac's has organised a special musical fundraiser in aid of South Westmeath Hospice for this Sunday evening, May 31.
Run by the O'Gara brothers, Kevin and Bryan, Peddler Mac's opened its doors in June of last year. With its old world paraphernalia and regular live music, the Athlone bar has proved popular with local punters.
In common with all pubs, Peddler Mac's is closed at the moment due to the Covid-19 restrictions, but that hasn't stopped them from organising the fundraiser.
The Church Street premises will be showcasing some of the finest musical acts in the midlands through the Peddler Mac's Facebook page to support South Westmeath Hospice.
The line-up who have kindly volunteered their musical talents includes The Henshaws (5-6pm), Keith & Liam Flynn (6-7pm), No Refrets (7-8pm) and David Hughes (8-9pm).
And with next Monday a bank holiday, there's even more reason to get into the mood for some great music on Sunday evening in order to support a very worthy cause.
"Shake yourself a cocktail or pour yourself a nice pint of plain and pretend you’re back in Peddler Mac’s but, most importantly, please donate what you can to this worthy cause," is the advice from Kevin and Bryan.
One of the reasons Peddler Mac's stepped into the breach to organise the fundraiser is that the local Hospice will be missing out on their biggest fundraiser of the year, the sunflower collection, which was due to take place on June 6-7.
The South Westmeath Hospice palliative care team aims to provide an open, honest and friendly atmosphere in which to offer physical, emotional, spiritual and social care.
Their objective is to promote a feeling of ease among patients and their families. Considerable funding is required annually to continue to provide services to patients and families in the Athlone area and across communities in South Westmeath and South Roscommon. These services are provided free-of-charge, for as long as they are needed. Whether large or small, each donation makes a difference.
