Gardai make Athlone growhouse discovery

Gardaí attached to the Athlone District Drugs Unit, with assistance from the Garda Air Support Unit, conducted a search operation at a premises in the Fardrum area of Athlone last night at approximately 9pm.

During the course of the operation, executed under search warrant, 14 cannabis plants and a quantity of packaged cannabis (pending analysis) with an estimated street value of €21,000 was seized.

A man, aged in his 40s, was arrested at the scene and taken to Athlone Garda Station where he was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

He has since been charged in relation to this incident and is due to appear before Athlone District Court on June 3.
