Lowest level of critical care cases in over a month
The number of COVID-19 patients on critical care beds in hospitals nationwide has fallen to the lowest level since late March.
According to figures from the HSE, there were 90 COVID-19 positive patients in critical care units at 8pm last night, Tuesday.
It’s the lowest number of patients on critical care beds since March 29 and significantly below the peak figure of 160 on April 8 last.
In the four hospitals across the region, there were only six patients on critical care beds last night, five in Tullamore and one in Portlaoise. There were no COVID-19 positive patients in critical care in either Mullingar or Portiuncula hospitals.
Nationally, another 15 patients suspected to have COVID-19 but who were awaiting test results were on critical care beds. Two of these patients were in this region, one each in Tullamore and Portiuncula.
At 8pm last night, there were a total of 20 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Tullamore hospital, 15 in Mullingar, and two in each of Portiuncula and Portlaoise.
Another 20 patients across the four hospitals were suspected COVID-19 cases.
