Building work restarts on two Athlone social housing projects
Construction work on two social housing projects in Athlone recommenced last week.
Construction recommenced recently at social housing schemes at Arcadia, Athlone, and at The Orchard, Athlone.
The two Athlone sites were among 35 nationwide designated as essential projects by the Government.
The designation ends on May 29 – at which point it is expected the approved elements of the projects will all be completed and ready for allocation.
It’s understood 21 of the homes at Arcadia will be ready by this time and 24 of The Orchard homes.
A spokesperson for Westmeath County Council was unavailable for comment.
The move came after the Department of Housing requested details of social housing schemes which were near completion,
Work began on the Arcadia project in the summer of 2018 and was done to be completed shortly.
The contractor is Glenman Corporation and the overall project, at this stage known as Gortnadreas, comprises 33 units.
The project at The Orchard is being delivered by social housing agency Tuath Housing Association and when completed will include 32 units.
