45% of all confirmed deaths are in nursing homes

There were 730 confirmed deaths of patients with COVID-19 by 11am, today, Tuesday.

This includes the notification of 44 more deaths since yesterday.

394 deaths are from care settings, including 330 from nursing homes. The nursing home number accounts for 45% of all confirmed deaths.

Another 108 deaths are now being assessed from care settings as to possible COVID-19 cases, including 64 from nursing homes. These are not included in the ‘lab confirmed’ 730 deaths.

There are now 16,040 cases, following the notification of an additional 388 new cases by 11am today. 

The latest geographical breakdown, as of midnight, Sunday, shows there were 377 cases in Westmeath and 91 in Roscommon.

Separately, a breakdown of the 15,185 cases confirmed by midnight on Saturday supplied by the Health Protection Survillance Centre, shows that:

*61% of the patients have fully recovered.

*26.4% of cases were healthcare workers

*There were 478 clusters of cases, accounting for 3,139 cases.

*30 of the cases related to babies under the age of 1.

*There were 820 cases in the HSE Midlands area (Longford/Westmeath/Laois and Offaly)

*There were 717 cases in the HSE West area, which includes Roscommon

At that stage Westmeath had 369 cases which represented the third highest rate per population of confirmed COVID-19 cases at 415.7 per 100,000, behind Dublin at 569 per 100,000 and Cavan (526.4 per 100,000). Roscommon had 91

As of midnight, Monday, 111,584 tests have been carried out.

Over the past week, there have been 20,822 tests, with 19% (4,025) testing positive.

The HPSC breakdown as of midnight on April 18 also assessed the then 642 reported deaths.

*One was in the age group 15-14, previously reported as a 23 year old

*Three were in the 25-34 year age group

*9 – 35-44 age group

*15 – 45-54 age group

*29 – 55-64 age group

*585 – 65+

 

There were 242 healthcare workers in the Midlands area who have contracted the virus out of a national total of 4,009

Of the 478 clusters reported nationally by midnight, April 18, 42 were in the HSE Midlands area
