Local Polish community rows in with face masks project
Volunteers from the Midlands Polish community have been producing cloth face masks to show solidarity, support and community spirit, as a response to the current COVID-19 pandemic.
The initiative was started before Easter by Magda Podsiadly from Athlone and Kasia Pasik and Kasia Sochacka from Longford. Over 500 masks were donated to different beneficiaries in Midlands already.
Last week 90 masks were donated to Public Health Nurses in Longford, 50 to the nursing home in Ballymahon, 40 to Lanesboro and 30 given to the Public Health Nurses in Athlone.
The initiative has been supported by the Midlands Polish Community Association which said, in a statement: “We would like to thank to all who greatly supported this initiative and also to all members of our support subgroup, part of Midlands Polish Community, who coordinate the project.”
The group is also in contact with the Irish Countrywoman’s Association regarding national project ‘Sew Scrubs for Ireland’.
