Westmeath has second highest incidence of COVID-19 per population
According to the most recent figures, Westmeath has the second highest rate of COVID-19 cases per population in the country.
The official figures given nightly by the Department of Health show that only Dublin has a higher rate of COVID-19 cases confirmed.
As of midnight on Monday, there were 25 confirmed cases in Westmeath. For statistical purposes, that equates to a rate of 28.4 per 100,000 population.
Dublin had a rate of 48.9 cases per 100,000. Wicklow was the next highest after Westmeath at 27.4 cases per 100,000.
You are significantly more likely statistically to contract COVID-19 in Westmeath, than in Roscommon, which currently has the LOWEST rate of COVID -19 cases in the country at 3.1 per 100,000.
The news comes as the Department of Health has confirmed that two more people diagnosed with COVID-19 have died, bringing the total deaths associated with the virus in Ireland to nine.
The Department of Health, said that the two patients who died were a man and a woman from the east of the country.
The woman involved had an underlying health condition.
As of 1pm on Wednesday, there were 235 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ireland, bringing the total to 1,564 in Ireland.
