Partners and children banned from maternity unit in Mullingar
A 'no partners or children' visitor ban has come into effect today (Thursday) at the maternity unit in Mullingar's Regional Hospital Mullingar.
In a statement, the Ireland East Hospital Group apologised for "any distress caused to both parents" as a result of the move.
"The ban is being imposed in order to protect mothers and their new born babies as well as all staff and other patients within the hospital," said the statement.
"Exceptions will be made in outstanding circumstances. We hope that our Maternity Services and Visiting Restrictions can be lifted as soon as possible."
The hospital group said it appreciated all the support and understanding the public have given the hospital during this very difficult time.
